Stunning weapon Mr. David, I'm impressed. Did you build it to shoot 180's ?

Thank you peak98!

This is not my gun, it was built for a customer. I did shoot a couple of rounds through it to clear the ports in the brake and to see what the noise and recoil was like and like I said in the description, this is "The ULTIMATE 357 Maximum"....

Tom - I hope you enjoy this rifle as much as I would! I really, really, really like it! [biggrin]

Very nice work.   Do you have a preference on barrel length on the 357 max?   Is there a "sweet spot" on length for this cal?

Thank you Greenjay!

The 357 Maximum is such an efficient and versatile cartridge, that it works well with most any barrel length...

I would be hard pressed to pick just one specific barrel length. I would go with a 16 1/2" barrel on the "short side" and a 23-25" barrel on the longer side. I have shot all barrel lengths in the 357 Maximum and me personally, I just like the longer barrels. My test results, shown here on the forum, show a 16 1/2" barrel to be just as accurate as a 25" barrel. I would let shooting distance and hunting preference dictate my preferred barrel length...

With the T/C Encore pictured above and with the proper loads, I would not hesitate to take it on a varmint hunt, with possible shots out to 400+ yards, or on a deer stand with shots from 30 yds. to 300 yds.. This is one 357 Max that can literally do it all and not think twice about any of it....

I have spent the last few days reading the information on this forum on the 357 maximum project and other projects you have going on here. (Love the work your doing with the 357 and rifle builds). I have to say your really in a class of your own here David. The talent you have is truly some thing and you not afraid to share every thing you know with your public. Such a rare quality these days, very humble and yet with a strength. I truly admire it. Absolutely no criticisms on my part here. I wish to cheer you on and see just what level you may take this to. Even this forum is in a class of its own. The people behind the posts exude a friendly nature and really are interested in you personally and wish to see you succeed . Good comments for all of you. Some genuine gratitude to you David and to all your associates.

Hi David.
You are so blessed to have not only a job your exceptionally skilled at but also a job you really enjoy. Your work comes from your heart and it shows in your results.
I have1 question. My friend has a Marlin Model 1894 Cowboy barrel. ( barrel only) chambered in 357 magnum. It is a tapered octagon barrel 20". Can this be re chambered to 357 maximum and if yes would you be prepared to do so?
I wish I had your skill set. Always interested in what your next project is. Thanks David.

Hi South paw,

I am Blessed to be able to do the work that I do, but God deserves all the credit for giving me the ability to do this...

I do not keep up with the lever action rifles, and I do not know the strength limitation of them. With the 35 magnum having an operating pressure limit of 35,000 psi, and the 357 Maximum a pressure limit in excess of 50,000 psi with some loads pushed to 55,000 psi, I don't know if those lever action rifles can handle that much pressure...

Without talking directly to Marlin and hearing first hand what the SAFE maximum working pressure limits of their rifles are, this is something that I cannot do. I have a list with well over 100 names and phone numbers, from customers wanting the very same thing. I have yet to get a straight answer from Marlin, but until I do, I cannot and will not do these conversations...

Thanks for that update David. I do understand your duty of care to your clients. I also respect your approach to your work. May be in the future we can come back to lever actions in 357 maximum. Would be a real interesting subject to review. Thank you again for your thoughts and information. All the best to you and your endeavours. It's been a real pleasure to be exposed to your work, thoughts and your success. I wish you so much more in your future and more success. Your hard work deserves reward. You inspire us.

This set up is beautiful, I’m interested in knowing the cost. I believe I have caught the .357 maximum bug.

Fastleo,

welcome to the forum and God Bless.

Thank you!

With a customer supplied action and barrel, for a barrel stub, an identical build like the one pictured would be $1,500 shipped to you...
