I just finished our first "fluted" H&R barrel stub in 357 Maximum and I am very proud of this one, meaning, I like this one well enough to keep but, I don't think Vern will let me [biggrin][biggrin][biggrin]....

Any questions, just ask!

WOW is RIGHT!!!

Sorry, David, you're welcome to pet and even shoot it if you want, but you can't keep it!!!

Seriously, it looks super great, and I can hardly wait to get it and shoot it. And I'm hoping there are some Indiana whitetails that end up wishing you had kept it!

LOL

I got the rifle today, and let me just say - this gun feels and looks fantastic! The pictures don't do it justice. The workmanship is absolutely superb. The action is tight, it feels like a bank vault when you close it. And the trigger - I cannot believe how David reworked this trigger! Light, no creep, it is outta this world!!

I can hardly wait to shoot it....,

David, that is a simply gorgeous gun!  The work you do is truly impressive.  I'm not sure what is more beautiful; the way the guns you build look, or that they also shoot so well?!

Hi Dave,

I thought I had the best looking H&R's out there until I saw this one! The ONLY reason Vern got the FIRST fluted barrel is because mine has not been finished yet . That's okay though.

Vern - have you had the opportunity to take your new gun to the range yet? What powders and bullets have you decided on?

I'm thinking about one of Dave's short barreled H&R's in 357 Maximum and 445 Super Mag. for close range work on black bear and wild hogs. I have been shooting a T/C Contender in 445 that Dave rechambered for me from a 44 magnum several years ago and I really like it. The accuracy from those big heavy bullets is simply amazing and with all the work being done with the 357 Maximums, I've decided I better not miss the boat and go ahead and get one of them too.

The 140 FTX bullet is looking promising and running about 2500FPS using 296 powder. Been raining here every day for the last week but I hope to make it out tomorrow to do some more load testing and will post my results. Sure is a sweet gun to shoot!

Sorry for the tardiness getting this posted up.

While back in Indiana I managed to drop a nice sized doe with this H&R and the 140 FTX Hornady bullets. I have them coming out of the muzzle at about 2400 FPS, and the combination was quite impressive.

I had a doe step out of some 7-8 ft CRP cover right at dark about 60 yards away. Watchedher a few minutes and then she turned to go back in. I put the crosshairs just in front of the shoulder since she was quartering towards me and let the hammer drop. She ran about 40 yards and dropped. The bullet went in right where I wanted, and it almost tore off the opposite side leg just below the shoulder where it exited. The was a fist sized exit with the bone on the offside leg completely shattered and broken. The leg was still attached only by some of the skin. I was shooting from a ladder stand so the slightly downward angle took out the heart and that offside leg.

I was impressed with the bullet performance, and the way this rifle shot. Thanks for making me such a great rifle, David!

Vern,

CONGRATULATIONS on your doe kill with your 357 Maximum ...

Glad to hear the 140 gr. Hornady FTX bullet performed so well for you ...

BTW - It was a pleasure to meet you and spend a little time talking with you and I hope we can get together again. After deer season, you are welcome to come by and shoot with me on my little 300 yd. range if you ever get the time....

DAVID
