I, I just ran into an old Army buddy that bought one of these years ago before leaving Germany. He says he has only shot mag ammo in it never max. I know they had Flame cutting issues due to to light ammo, but if my LGS checks it out and it ok would it be worth buying. Would it be safe to shoot heavier 357 max ammo in?

JRhinehart,

welcome to the forum and God Bless.

It would most definitely be worth buying!

You can still buy different length barrels and barrel shrouds for the 357 Super Mag, aka 357 Maximum...

I see a couple of these guns a year to modify and set up as scoped hunting handguns, and from all the ones I have seen, none of them had any real issues with flame cutting, and I believe that the worse one had a "flame cut" of no more than .003...

If the gun is in solid and sound working order, it would be safe to shoot 357 Maximum ammo in it...

HEAVIER 357 MAX AMMO?!?! It depends on your definition of such. Follow any of the good reloading manuals, and you should have no problems at all...

Ok I’m going to make him an offer, but I also just found a 357max super blackhawk a couple hours from me so maybe I’ll end up with 2

That would be great if you could get both! Both are excellent hunting handguns for sure...
